Spotlight turned on musical theatres

SLP CollegeSLP College in Leeds is one of the country's leading 'fame' academies attracting budding stars of stage and screen from across the UK and Europe .

As part of its ambitious expansion plans the college wanted to raise its profile and that of its highly talented students and staff.

Anderson Waugh identified the college's annual showcase performance –its students perform to top agents in the entertainment industry in the hope of getting a big break – as a potentially excellent media opportunity.

Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth)We asked Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor in the hit soap) to help front a media campaign highlighting the showcase performance in London 's West End .

Our media campaign was a major success and led to features on ITV and BBC Radio as well as in national and local newspapers and, importantly, in several theatre-industry magazines publcations

Providing a healthy launch

Nothing is more important than health and when Anderson Waugh was asked to spearhead a public relations campaign for Sheffield 's major Health Impact Assessment study we wanted to make sure it gained the positive coverage it deserved.

Working on behalf of several Sheffield bodies - NHS Primary Care Trusts, Sheffield Hallam University , Sheffield City Council, Warwick University and Sheffield Homes -we drew up a comprehensive media strategy and dug out the best news angles.

The result was national, regional and local coverage for the unveiling of the study's findings, which looked at the physical and mental health benefits of the city's huge Decent Homes programme (an extensive overhaul of the city's council-owned housing stock).

Coverage ranging from the Sheffield Star to the Birmingham Mail to the popular Daily Mail website, BBC Radio Sheffield's Breakfast Show and a host of specialist nationwide titles meant that we reached out to an audience of millions.

A million good reasons to communicate effectively

South Yorkshire PoliceSouth Yorkshire Police's Serving You publication is one of the region's biggest, reaching out to more than one million people.

It's a key opportunity for the force to communicate with the public and also a significant challenge in connecting with such a wide and diverse audience.

Anderson Waugh consultant Ian Waugh joined the editorial team charged with driving forward a progressive revamp and redesign of this highly important annual publication.

The end result is that this year's new-look Serving You is even more accessible to the public in an attractive A4 design, helping South Yorkshire Police effectively communicate the crucial work they are doing to meet the priorities of local communities.

Feedback to the revamped publication has been very positive.

A Steel City welcome for the world

Sheffield City CouncilAnderson Waugh consultant Neil Anderson was brought in to organise a party to showcase Sheffield to the world as part of the city's 2005 hosting of G8 Summit: Sheffield hosted the Home Office minister leg while the World Leaders were entertained at Gleneagles.

Press from around the world mixed with politicians and civic leaders in the city centre's glitzy Crystal venue.

From Made in Sheffield-style stainless steel invites to a bottle of the city's famous Wards Bitter in the goody bag, the event was flawlessly executed and well-received.

Building good relations

Sheffield HomesSheffield Homes is the UK 's largest ALMO ( Arms Length Management Organisation) and manages more than 48,000 properties on behalf of Sheffield City Council as well delivering the country's biggest housing investment programme, known as Decent Homes, a £670 million improvement programme of council-owned homes.

Anderson Waugh used its expertise in handling reactive and proactive media situations of high profile organisations in what is a complex and sensitive environment.

The Anderson Waugh 24/7 client hotline ensured that we were on hand day and night and, as reacting to stories is never the full solution, we formulated and implemented a proactive media strategy.

Working closely with Sheffield Homes' partners, we helped unearth the organisation's key stories and turned them into copy which captured the interest of the media and in turn reached out to Sheffield Homes's thousands of tenants, stakeholders and the wider general public.

The result was a succession of good news stories in local and regional media including evening and daily newspapers, radio and television as well as important specialist titles in the housing and regeneration sector.
